Étude Arts celebrates Christine Brandes for having been awarded a fellowship into The Dallas Opera’s Hart Institute for Women Conductors.  This groundbreaking endeavor, which has changed the face of classical music by significantly advancing the careers of women in the most visible position in the orchestra, is the world’s first program designed to meet the needs of women opera conductors and is the only program of its kind which seeks to address the extreme gender imbalance of leadership on the podium in opera companies.

It is with great excitement and pride that Étude Arts announces the representation of South African pianist James Baillieu for The Americas.

Described by The Daily Telegraph as ‘in a class of his own,’ James Baillieu is one of the leading song and chamber music pianists of his generation.  He collaborates with a wide range of singers and instrumentalists and is a frequent guest at many of the world’s most distinguished music centers including Carnegie Hall, Wigmore Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Vancouver Playhouse, Berlin Konzerthaus, Vienna Musikverein, and the Barbican Centre amongst many others.

Highly sought after for masterclasses worldwide, recent sessions of learning have brought him to the Aldeburgh Festival, Cleveland Institute of Music, and to the Metropolitan Opera Lindemann Young Artist Development Program.  James Baillieu is a Professor at the Royal Academy of Music, International Tutor in Piano Accompaniment at the Royal Northern College of Music, a coach for the Jette Parker Young Artist Program at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and head of the Song Program at the Atelier Lyrique of the Verbier Festival Academy.

Rossini’s comic masterpiece Il barbiere di Siviglia was based on Beaumarchais’s French play Le Barbier de Séville and is the ultimate opera buffa. The score is a compendium of the composer’s wittiest and most brilliant writing, and includes the famous entrance aria Largo al factotum and a raft of superbly dynamic ensembles. This vibrant and youthful production from the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, directed by Laurent Pelly and led by Jérémie Rhorer, features Florian Sempey, one of the world’s best Figaros, the ‘Rossini tenor’ Michele Angelini, and the buffo theatrics of Peter Kálmán as the grumpy and scheming Bartolo.
