Étude Arts welcomes Nicholas Newton
Étude Arts announces that bass-baritone Nicholas Newton joins our roster for general management. An alum of the Studio Artist and Filene Artist Programs of Wolf Trap Opera, Aspen Music Festival’s Young Artist Program, and the Houston Grand Opera Studio, studying under the tutelage of Dr. Stephen King, Nicholas Newton appears this season at Houston Grand Opera, the Metropolitan Opera, and Santa Fe Opera as well as in concert with the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
An avid concert performer and recitalist, Nicholas is an alumnus of Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute and has toured with renowned pianist, Kevin Murphy, and performed at the Tucson Desert Song Festival, Cincinnati Song Initiative, and in an evening of song under the auspices of Houston Grand Opera curated by Lawrence Brownlee.
Nicholas Newton’s commitment to contemporary music extends beyond the concert stage itself as he works with living composers through the field of research in his capacity as co-founder of the Black Opera Database, an in-progress resource created to archive, celebrate, and introduce audiences to operatic repertoire by Black composers and works that chronicle the Black experience.
